Final Cut Pro 10.2.3 Dmg

Imovie

In the early Fall of 2016, Apple came out with their newest adaptation of Final Cut Pro X, version 10.3. This new version is a bit different than v.10.2.3, the version we have at NewTV, but comes with some pretty handy features and is more streamlined than its predecessor. Some may even say that it works more like a professional editing system! I guess Apple is finally listening to their consumers. Maybe I should take back my comments about FCPX being “iMovie plus”…

Below is my list of the top 10 differences between Final Cut Pro x 10.2.3 and Final Cut Pro X 10.3:

1. Redesigned Interface

Final Cut Pro 10.2.3 Dmg

a.Version 10.3 has a darker, flatter interface that matches Apple’s new sleek, modern designs. Ooooo. Aaaaaa.

2. Workspace Layouts

a. You can now create your own workspace with an original name, use the built-in workspace presets like Color & Effects, (gives you colorscopes), or use your default workspace. You can find these new workspace layouts in the top option bar above the interface.

3. Toggling Workspaces

a. Along with being able to create your own workspace layout, you can also toggle parts of your workspace on and off, creating more space to work when you’re not using them. You can hide and show the Brower, Timeline (Project), or Inspector by clicking the workspace toggle button in the upper right-hand corner of the interface.

4. Relocated Browser Buttons

a. The browser space is now much bigger, so you have more room to navigate through your options. With all this added space, the titles, generators, music and photos browser buttons have moved from the bottom right-hand corner of the interface to the top left-hand corner, allowing for more space in the project work area. These buttons have also condensed from four buttons down to just two. Once you choose one of these buttons, you now have to click on each option in a dropdown menu. Final Cut Pro 7 and Adobe Premiere editors will find this feature very familiar. The Effect and Transition browser buttons are still in the same location down in the lower-right corner.

5. Secondary Displays

a. Lucky enough to have an edit computer with two monitors? You now have the option of sending the Timeline, Viewer or Browser to your second display. Located in the top-right corner, click and choose a section to send to your second display and click again to move it back to your main display. Easy peasy.

6. Enhanced Roles

a. We had roles in the last version of Final Cut Pro X but now you are able to organize them into “lanes”, with the most options residing in the audio lanes. To view each audio role in its horizontal space on the timeline, toggle between “Show Audio Lanes” and “Hide Audio Lanes” in the bottom, right-hand corner of the Index. There are a few things you should be aware of when working with these roles:

i. You can move audio sections horizontally in your timeline, but not vertically into other lanes.

ii. Audio lanes also show audio that is connected to video clips. For example, if you add a clip to your timeline that includes audio, you will see the audio as a part of that clip when the audio roles are hidden, but when they are shown, that audio will move into the dialogue lane (or whichever role you assign it to) and you now have the ability to edit the audio independently of the clip without detaching it. Yahoo!

iii. You can also reorder these lanes by clicking and dragging them to a different location in the Index.

b. There are also many new colors to choose from. By hitting “edit roles” you can change the color that you attribute to each audio or video role.

c. Another new feature is “focusing” on roles. If you just want to look at one type of role, go to the Index and click on the small circle to the right of the role. All of the role types except the one you have chosen will compress, making it easier to see the one you are working with.

d. And if you’re a super organized person, you can even add sub-roles to your roles! Mmm sub-roles...Gosh, all this editing is making me hungry... Ahem. Right. Focus, Katie.

7. Inspector

a. Instead of seeing the original “Video”, “Audio” and “Info” text labels at the top of the inspector, these are now represented with icons.

b. You can now also double-click the top of the inspector to expand it to the entire right side of the interface. Now, when you expand all of your attributes, you no longer need to scroll up and down. It’s all right there for you. When you’re done, double-click on the inspector again to collapse it.

8. Remove attributes

a. In version 10.2.3 and earlier, you have been able to paste the same attributes to many clips at once. However, in order to undo that, you would have to remove each one individually via the inspector. Now to remove these attributes, just highlight a group of clips, go to “Edit”, “Remove Attributes”, and check off the attributes you want to remove. (note: Make sure the attributes you want to keep are un-checked!)

9. Flow Transition

a. The new Flow Transition is a pretty nifty feature that allows you to have a smoother transition between jump cuts, making them seem like one seamless clip. Just search for this in your transitions, drop it between two clips and violà! It looks like you never even made a cut. (Note: If you are a premiere user, this is very similar to the “morph cut”.)

10. Continuous Playback

a. In the earlier versions of Final Cut Pro X, you were only able to watch one clip at a time in the browser. Now if you want to review all of your clips in sequential order without stopping, you can check off the “continuous playback” option, located in the top, right-hand corner of your browser.

I hope this list gives all of you a quick intro into the new features of Final Cut Pro X version 10.3. Keep in mind that these are my personal top 10 differences but there are still more in store.
